A pensioner from Italy left 800,000 euros to Romanian caregivers, but the will was contested. What did the investigators discover?
A 66-year-old Italian pensioner, former local civil servant and 100% disabled, decided to leave his entire fortune to two Romanian carers who provided him with daily assistance. The fortune, estimated at around €800,000, included bank accounts, savings bonds and bonds.

The will had been drawn up on 16 May 2018, just two months before Social Services and the local police requested the establishment of an external guardianship, suspecting that the carers “might be up to something illegal” against the man.
After the Italian's death, two fourth cousins challenged the will, and the court won their case. The judge motivated the decision by the fact that the man was “vulnerable and easily deceived, being sick and very lonely'.
The decision states that the pensioner has become “easy object of attention” to the caregivers, who, according to the investigation, would have put together a plan to obtain his fortune, according to the Italian media.
The investigation revealed the fact that the two Romanian women would have isolated the man from the family doctor and would have reduced his contact with the protection network, in order to be able to exercise total control over him.
At the same time, authorities are investigating whether some of the money was spent on gambling.
In addition, Italian prosecutors added to the list of charges that the caregivers did not provide the Italian with adequate care. He would have been left alone several times, sleeping on a makeshift bed, “no mattress, just some boards”.
In addition to the civil trial, in which the will was annulled, a criminal investigation is underway to determine the possible legal responsibilities of the two women.
