CFR Cluj is very close to formalizing the first two transfers of this winter mercato. Iuliu Mureșan, the president of Transylvania, announced that the team from Gruia is in advanced discussions with two footballers with a defensive profile.
Iuliu Mureșan (71 years old) revealed that his team is about to bring in two central defenders. The presentations of the two players would take place shortly, reports DigiSport.ro.
“We want to bring more. We are in advanced discussions with two central defenders. I would have liked it to be at the meeting (which takes place on Saturday, January 3), let's see if we succeed,” said Iuliu Mureșan on the Digi Sport Special show.
CFR Cluj currently relies on four central defenders: Matei Ilie, Sheriff Sinyan, Anton Kresic and Kurt Zouma. However, the last two would leave CFR this winter.
In most of the games this season, Dan Petrescu, Andrea Mandorlini and Daniel Pancu, the three coaches who sat on the CFR bench, chose to opt for a pair of central defenders consisting of Matei Ilie and Sheriff Sinyan. In the absence of one of the two, the left defender Aly Abeid was also appointed in the center of the defense.
