New Year is a time of magic, warm meetings and increased activity of scammers. The police spoke about the “New Year’s” schemes of online scammers that they use during the holidays.
Avoiding unexpected parcels
You receive a notification: “Receive your parcel. Pay for shipping/customs duty/insurance – and the gift is yours!” In fact, the real sender will always notify you in advance; no postal service requires prepayment for already arrived cargo.
Do not click on links or enter card details under any circumstances. Call the delivery service at the official number – and then you will make sure that no “package” exists.
“Secret Santa” with a trick
In chats and groups they offer to play “Secret Santa”: supposedly a stranger will give you a surprise if you fulfill the condition, namely, subscribe to 5-10 groups on social networks. In this way, organizers collect a base of active subscribers for selling or sending spam; subscriptions can be paid or lead to fraudulent resources. As a result, you will not receive any gift, but will only ruin your mood.
Advice: play only with friends and acquaintances in trusted companies. Any “required” subscriptions are a red flag!
We refuse “profitable offers” in the new year
During and after the holidays, announcements appear on social networks: “Last copies! Only today! 3 times cheaper!” The scheme is simple: the site looks like a well-known store, but the link in the browser differs by 1-2 characters. You agree to a “beneficial” offer, and payment goes through a third-party payment gateway. As a result, you may receive your order, but it is not a fact that it will correspond to reality.
