Russia launched an attack on the private zoo Feldman Ecopark in the Kharkiv region on the first day of 2026 killing a large number of birds and injuring other animals.
According to the head of the Kharkiv Regional Military Administration Oleh Siniehubov, Russian forces launched a KAB guided aerial bomb on the park located in a suburb of the city of Kharkiv.
Most parrots, pheasants and other “elite birds” kept in winter cages were killed.
One of the tigers escaped from the enclosure and took refuge in another building following the explosion. The lions were wounded.
“All our sedatives were stored in the building that was hit by the KAB bomb. We are waiting for a tranquilizer gun to move the tiger to another enclosure“, said the owner of the ecopark, Oleksandr Feldman.
According to updated information, the aerial bomb exploded on the ground, in the perimeter of the ecopark.
A 40-year-old woman was injured and hospitalized following the explosion
The owner of the park stated that the injured person is a volunteer and her injuries are relatively minor.
“She had a head wound and got into the ambulance by herself. The raptor winter pen and the bird winter facility are completely destroyed.” he said for Suspilne Kharkiv.
The Feldman Ecopark has been repeatedly targeted by Russian attacks.
In the first weeks of the war, the ecopark fell to the Russians and two civilian employees of the zoo were captured and executed by the occupying forces.
After the liberation of the territory, during the subsequent bombings, a teenage volunteer was killed in the park.
This new attack, on the very first day of the new year, confirms once again that the Russian military is systematically attacking civilian targets rather than military infrastructure as it claims.
