Meteorologists announce on Thursday that the precipitation is expanding in most of the country and snow is expected in all areas until January 8.
The National Meteorological Administration has issued a weather advisory for Thursday, January 1, 10:30 a.m. to Saturday, January 3, 10:00 a.m., targeting moderate precipitation, increased wind, snow, sleet and blizzard in mountain areas.
According to meteorologists, the area of precipitation will gradually expand in the west, center and northwest of the country, as well as in all mountainous and submontane areas. Locally, 20-30 l/m2 of water will accumulate.
It will snow in the mountains, and especially in the Apuseni Mountains, a consistent layer of 15-25 cm of snow will be deposited. In Maramureș, Transylvania, Crișana and in the northern half of Oltenia, snow will prevail, with a snow layer of 5-15 cm. Mixed precipitation is expected in Banat, and in places it will form snow.
The wind will have strong intensifications in the mountains, especially in the Western and Eastern Carpathians, and from Friday also in the Southern Carpathians, with speeds over 70-80 km/h, blowing snow.
Also, until Saturday, the wind will also temporarily intensify in the low-lying areas of the west, center and east of the country, where gusts will reach 40-50 km/h.
Code yellow for mountain wind and blizzard
ANM has also issued a yellow code warning, valid from Thursday, January 1, at 11:00 p.m., until Friday, January 2, at 6:00 p.m. During this interval, the wind will blow strongly in the Western, Eastern and Southern Carpathians, with speeds of 70-90 km/h, and at altitudes above 1,700 meters, gusts can reach 90-100 km/h. The snow will be blizzardy and visibility will be reduced.
Meteorologists also warn that until January 8, there will be precipitation in all regions of the country, and locally the amounts of water may be significant.
