Until to leave Chelsea, Enzo Maresca (45) has revealed to managers that he has been approached on several occasions by Manchester City!
Today, the first day of the new year, Chelsea sacked Enzo Maresca. The management had several grievances with the Italian coach. TalkSPORT and GiveMeSport journalist Ben Jacobs elaborates:
The reasons why Chelsea sacked Enzo Maresca
“One of the main issues has been with the medical staff. Chelsea have insisted that decisions about player welfare and workload are independent of the manager.
On top of that, management were worried about the 20 points dropped in the Premier League and Champions League in games Chelsea led, fearing a mental problem.
Instead, Maresca felt that he was not protected and accused interference that led to serious problems with the rulers”.
Beyond these aspects, there was another important element that led to the termination: Manchester City kept circling the coach, and “some Chelsea executives felt this distracted the Italian“.

The Athletic announced some time ago that Manchester City are considering Maresca for the technical bench, in case Pep Guardiola decides to leave in the summer of 2026.
The same publication says today that Maresca has informed Chelsea management three times that he has held talks with people associated with Manchester City about his willingness to change scenery.
It happened twice in late October and most recently in mid December. According to a clause in the contract with Chelsea, the Italian coach was obliged to communicate if he was talking to representatives of another team.
Chelsea's next opponent will be Manchester City. It remains to be seen who will lead the Blues on Sunday. On the short list of possible replacements for Maresca is Liam Rosenior (41), the Englishman who coaches Strasbourg, a team with the same owners as Chelsea.
