During the New Year holidays, Russians en masse turn to psychologists – complaining about shopaholism and getting stuck in their eyes. And these cute addictions can lead to serious problems at work and in the family, experts say.
Psychologists told us: the problem is not exactly new, but it got worse during the holidays – people have a lot of time, which most people simply have nowhere to spend. And while you’re lying at home, your hand automatically reaches for your phone with short videos and marketplaces. An endless selection of goods and adding thousands to the cart is no longer entertainment, but a real frustration. Because it’s fast dopamine, which is produced in anticipation of shopping. After which a setback occurs in the form of apathy, melancholy, lack of mood and even depressive episodes. It’s the same with Reels – cheap dopamine, which is produced in anticipation of seeing something “wow”.
Experts advise grounding yourself – asking yourself what makes you so drawn to escape from reality and why it is more interesting there than in life. Next, formulate not what worries you, but what you would like, find the root of the problem and work through it. If the addiction is serious, it would be a good idea to consult a specialist.
