On Friday before The 9th duty pair of Polish MiG-29 aircraft intercepted an Il-20 reconnaissance aircraft of the Russian Federation flying over the Baltic Sea – reported the Operational Command of the Branches of the Armed Forces. As noted, this is the third such mission this week.


As reported by DORSZ in a statement, the Russian plane was again traveling without a submitted flight plan and with its transponder turned off, posing a potential threat to traffic safety in the region. “Polish pilots intercepted and identified a foreign aircraft, which was escorted in accordance with NATO procedures,” we read in the release.
The command emphasized that there was no violation of Polish airspace. “This is the third such situation this week, confirming the increasing activity of Russian aviation in the Baltic region,” it was noted.
On Wednesday, the Operational Command informed about the interception on Tuesday by the pair of Polish MiG-29 fighters on duty of the Russian Il-20 aircraft, which was performing a reconnaissance mission in international airspace over the Baltic Sea without a complex flight plan and with its transponder turned off. Another such incident was reported on Thursday by the Deputy Prime Minister and the head of the Ministry of National Defence, Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz. (PAP)
