Agriculture is not just a job, but a passion passed down from generation to generation, and in Romania the new wave of young farmers is starting to play a decisive role in a field marked by climate change, economic instability and accelerated technology.

An example comes from Şipote commune, Iasi county, where a young woman of only 20 years is building her future on the foundation of a family inheritance, according to a post made on the official Facebook page of the USV Iasi Faculty of Agriculture.

Paula Corlat is a second-year student at the Faculty of Agriculture of the “Ion Ionescu de la Brad” University of Life Sciences in Iași, majoring in Consumer and Environmental Protection, and represents one of the voices of the young generation who choose to stay close to the land. Along with his brother and father, Paula is actively involved in the management of a farm that has experienced spectacular development over the past two decades.

“Her story starts from her childhood, raised in the middle of a farm that was founded in 2005, thanks to the vision and tireless work of her father. With a simple U650 tractor and a few hectares inherited from her grandparents, the Corlat family set out on a path full of challenges, but also opportunities”. added the Faculty of Agriculture USV Iași.

The road was not without obstacles, but perseverance and long-term vision made the small family farm transform, over time, into an agricultural holding of approximately 1,000 hectares.

“Having grown up on a farm, I feel like I totally relate and can say that it's not just a job. On the other hand, this field comes with many challenges, from climate change to market instability. I warmly recommend farming only to those who have passion and dedication, because this sector requires time, responsibility, well-tuned management and an open vision for the future and technology”says Paula Corlat.

Modernization came naturally in this course of development. Today, the farm has an impressive fleet of state-of-the-art equipment for tillage and the application of phytosanitary treatments.

The structure of the crops reflects a well-thought-out strategy: wheat, corn, sunflower, canola and barley, alongside legumes such as peas, soybeans and alfalfa.

Although the family has not yet accessed European funds, all investments were made from their own sources, which underlines the stability and ambition of the business. Currently, a new modernization project is underway, which aims to purchase modern machinery to increase production efficiency.

For Paula Corlat, farming is more than a field of activity – it's a way of life.

“Through determination and vision, young farmers like Paula Corlat prove that the future of Romanian agriculture is in safe hands. They not only take over the legacy of past generations, but shape it according to current requirements, implementing technologies and strategies for a sustainable future. Paula is proof that success in agriculture does not come overnight, but is cultivated with work, passion and innovation. And those who dare to dream and act will be the ones who will write the future of this field essential!”the representatives of the Faculty of Agriculture from Iași also sent.
