“I spoke with European leaders this morning about the latest security and reconstruction efforts in Ukraine. We support the efforts of President Trump and President Zelensky to reach a negotiated settlement and stand ready to provide solid security guarantees for a just and lasting peace in Ukraine,” Carney wrote on Platform X.
The Canadian Prime Minister emphasized that his country remains committed to activities for Ukraine, becoming the only non-European partner in the so-called coalition of the willing – a group of countries supporting Kyiv in the face of Russian aggression.

Financial and diplomatic support
Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand announced on Monday that she had a conversation with the head of Ukrainian diplomacy Andriy Sybiha. During this meeting, she assured Canada of unwavering support for Ukraine. Anand also stressed that decisions regarding the country's sovereignty must be made solely by its authorities.
“We also talked about the ongoing peace process and I emphasized that all decisions regarding Ukraine's sovereignty must be made by Ukraine itself,” Anand wrote on the X platform.
The minister also recalled Canada's commitment to provide C$2.5 billion to support the Ukrainian economy. These funds, which Prime Minister Carney already spoke about on Saturday during his meeting with Volodymyr Zelensky in Halifax, are to be used for loans, guarantees and servicing Ukraine's debt.
Upcoming talks on Ukraine
On Tuesday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced that security advisers from the coalition states would meet on January 3 in Ukraine. Then, on January 6, talks will take place at the level of the leaders of these countries in France.
By actively engaging in both diplomatic and financial activities, Canada reaffirms its key role in international efforts for peace and reconstruction in Ukraine.
