In at least 25 regions of Russia, there are almost no drugs left in pharmacies containing the active ingredient roxithromycin. Also, regional pharmacies lack drugs with the active ingredients azithromycin, clarithromycin and erythromycin.
Missing antibiotics have long been successfully used to treat various infectious diseases, such as tonsillitis or pneumonia, doctors say. They are also used to treat infections of the genitourinary system, skin and soft tissues.
Drugs that have become scarce have analogues, but differences in the drugs in terms of toxicity and allergenicity may cause them to be unsuitable for some patients.
