Lavrov declared that, on the night of December 28 to 29, Ukraine attacked the official residence of the Russian president in the Novgorod region with 91 long-range drones, which were all destroyed by the Russian air defense, writes Agerpres.

“Such imprudent actions will not go unansweredLavrov said, adding that the attack amounted to “state terrorism“. The head of Russian diplomacy stated that the targets for retaliatory strikes by the Russian armed forces have already been selected.

It was initially unclear whether Putin was in residence at the time.

Lavrov mentioned that the attack took place during negotiations on a possible peace agreement with Ukraine and that, although Russia would not leave the negotiations, Moscow's position would be reviewed, explaining that Ukraine would have switched to a policy of state terrorism.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky rejected Russia's accusations on Monday, calling them “a new series of lies”.

He told reporters via WhatsApp that Russia is trying, through such statements, to undermine the progress made in peace negotiations between Ukraine and the US and that Moscow is preparing the ground for an attack on Ukrainian government buildings in Kiev.

Zelenski urged US President Donald Trump to react appropriately to Russian threats.

In Ukraine, these statements were called manipulation. Andrei Kovalenko, the head of the Counter-Disinformation Center of the National Security Service of Ukraine, noted that Russia initially planned massive attacks on Ukrainian infrastructure, mainly energy, throughout the winter, and is now trying to cover it up with a fictitious story about an attack on Putin's residence.

According to him, this is how the Kremlin tries to justify additional strikes on Ukraine, including in front of the United States.

At the same time, monitoring resources did not record any drones in the area Lavrov was talking about.
