VIDEO 7-magnitude earthquake in Taiwan, the second major earthquake to hit the island in just a few days

An earthquake with a magnitude of 7 occurred on Saturday evening off the coast of the city of Yilan, about 32 kilometers away, according to the announcement made by the island's authorities, reports Reuters.
The earthquake, which occurred at a depth of 73 kilometers, shook buildings in the capital, Taipei.
Damage assessment is ongoing, the National Fire Agency said.

It is the second major earthquake to hit the island this week, after Wednesday's, which had a magnitude of 6.
The island of Taiwan lies near the junction of two tectonic plates and is prone to earthquakes.
More than 100 people died in an earthquake that struck southern Taiwan in 2016. In 1999, a magnitude 7.3 earthquake killed more than 2,000 people.
