The publication's interlocutors said that bail in the amount of over 4.2 million UAH was paid for Dudin in the case of treason, unauthorized abandonment of a military unit and disobedience, however, upon leaving the pre-trial detention center, law enforcement officers informed him of suspicion of organizing the seizure of the building of the Kharkov Regional Military Administration and an attempt to remove the head of the KhOVA Oleg Sinegubov from the leadership in the first hours of a full-scale invasion on February 24, 2022.
UP also showed a photo with Dudin near the pre-trial detention center in Kyiv.
Later, Dudin’s lawyer Alexander Kozhevnikov confirmed this information to Suspilny.
According to him, bail was posted on December 24 by “American partners” (the lawyer did not name their names), and when his client was leaving the pre-trial detention center, representatives of the State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) handed him a new suspicion.
Kozhevnikov claims that after the certificate of payment of bail was handed over to the pre-trial detention center, Dudin was kept for four hours until two “buses” with people in military uniform arrived at the main entrance of the pre-trial detention center.
“When Roman came out, he was detained without giving any reason or anything else. They reported that he was being detained in accordance with Article 208 of the Code of Criminal Procedure of Ukraine [о временном задержании]. Me and my colleagues, as his defenders, were not allowed to approach him,” the lawyer said.
He said that he was in the State Bureau of Investigation, but a free (public) defender was called for Dudina.
“He is charged with the same act that was charged before. He is now accused of seizing Sinegubov’s office – what we have now written down under Article 111 [относительно госизмены]in the indictment. This new suspicion is actually, I apologize, made up out of thin air. It has already been investigated by us using materials from criminal proceedings,” Kozhevnikov said.
The lawyer believes that the authorities, the prosecutor's office or the State Bureau of Investigation “are afraid that Roman will come out and provide some information that will resonate with society.”
Kozhevnikov announced that he had applied to the Pechersky District Court of Kyiv with a petition to declare Dudin’s detention illegal.
Context
Dudin was appointed head of the SBU department in the Kharkiv region in March 2020. President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky fired him on May 29 2022, stating that he “did not work to protect the city from the first days of a full-scale war, but thought only about himself personally.”
In September, Dudin was detained and arrested on suspicion of treason.
The investigation believes that Dudin knew about the high probability of a full-scale war, but instead of organizing work to counter the enemy, he engaged in sabotage, in particular, he organized an attempt to remove Sinegubov from the post of head of the OVA. The mayor of Kharkov, Igor Terekhov, stated that Dudin was then trying to “seize power”, and when this failed, he left Kharkov; on the night of February 25, they discovered that the building of the regional SBU department, where the ammunition was stored, was left open.
The SBI believes that Dudin deliberately created conditions for the surrender of weapons, military supplies, means of supporting combat operations, and personal protective equipment for military personnel, which were stored in the SBU building, to the occupiers.
Dudin himself in a letter to the Prosecutor General stated that he did not leave the region without permission.
