The surface of Antarctica is rapidly turning green
Parts of Antarctica are turning green and vegetating at an alarming rate as the region is gripped by extreme heat, according to a new study by scientists.
Satellite images show how islands of bright vegetation began to appear instead of eternal ice. Over the past 40 years, the area of “greening” has increased 10 times – according to scientists, at this rate the landscape can change beyond recognition.
This summer, an abnormally high temperature was recorded in Antarctica – +10°C, and in some parts +20°C.
