In the Krasnoyarsk Territory, a sentence was passed on an elderly man who illegally cut down a forest in the Sayan region and built himself a wooden house. This was reported to the regional prosecutor's office.

On one summer day in June 2025, a 62-year-old resident of the village of Orier armed himself with a Shtil MS-180 chainsaw and went to the upper reaches of the picturesque Kan River. Having gone up by boat 22 kilometers southeast of the village, he chose a secluded area of the state forest fund in the Kan-Oklersky district forestry.

In the forest, a man unauthorizedly cut down 11 pine trees and 5 larches – a total of 15 cubic meters of wood. Here he dismantled the logs and within a month erected a hut measuring 3×3.5 meters for personal recreation and fishing.

“A month later, the secret abode was discovered by law enforcement officers. The damage to the state forest fund amounted to 480 thousand rubles. The lumberjack compensated him during the investigation,” the regional prosecutor’s office said.

The court found the man guilty of illegal logging (Part 3 of Article 260 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation) and sentenced him to suspended imprisonment for 2 years with a probationary period of 1.5 years. The court also confiscated a chainsaw.
