Putin's “beast”. The Russian president's limousine is much more than an ordinary car


In early December, Vladimir Putin paid an official visit to India. During this trip, the Russian leader could be seen in an exclusive car accompanied by Indian leader Nerenda Modi. The same car was used during the September meeting of both leaders.

“It has roaring engines and interiors that can rival a five-star apartment. When it enters Delhi, it will not be just a ride – it will be a declaration: Russia is here,” wrote The Economic Times before Putin's visit.
Aurus Senat is used by Vladimir Putin during his trips abroad. It is a modern, armored limousine. It was designed on Putin's personal orders in 2013. This decision was dictated by the desire to show Russia's independence in public transport and replace foreign vehicles such as the Mercedes-Benz S 600 Guard Pullman.
Some experts call Aurus the Russian version of the American Beast used to move the US president. It was presented in 2018, and production began three years later in Yelabug.
Aurus Senat is manufactured by Aurus Motors, a subsidiary of the Russian NAMI institute, Sollers JSC, and Tawazun Holding of the United Arab Emirates.
In the civilian version, 120 copies of the car are produced each year, and the fully armored state limousine remains the exclusive choice of heads of state. Two armored cars were received in 2024 as a gift from the Russian leader by North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un.

The civilian version of the car costs approximately 18 million rubles, the presidential version is much more expensive and is not available for purchase on the open market. Aurus Senat “equipped with secret safety technology, the car is designed to meet extreme hazards without compromising comfort.”
“The standard version is equipped with a 4.4-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine generating 598 hp and 880 Nm of torque, with an optional V12 engine for extreme speeds,” writes The Economic Times.
Despite its powerful armor and nearly 7 meters in length, Aurus Senat accelerates to 100 km per hour. in just six seconds. The maximum speed of the car is 249 km per hour. “The Economic Times” also lists how safety is ensured in a limousine. Its security features include:
- VR10 level armor and reinforced ballistic glass
- bomb-resistant chassis and run-flat tires, allowing you to continue driving even if the tires are destroyed
- fire extinguishing systems and an independent oxygen source in case of emergencies
- numerous emergency exits and a secure communication system make it a mobile command center.
