A Russian emigrant who was previously tried for murdering mafiosi was detained in Greece.

A man nicknamed Edik was detained in a luxurious house in Kalyvia. As the Greek police clarified, during the searches, a pistol, a magazine with 14 rounds of ammunition, a probably falsified passport and identity cards, a driver’s license, a bank card using the details of a third party, five mobile phones and €250 were found and confiscated from the man.

He was wanted for his involvement in four murders, including the attacks on mafia leaders and members Giannis Skaftourus (Uncle Joe) in 2022, Vasilis Roumbetis (Rambo) and Dionysis Mouzakitis (Nionius) in 2023. He received 35 years in prison and a fine of €39 thousand.

In addition, a warrant was issued against him for his participation in the murder of Vangelis Zambuna (Zambon) in January 2024.

According to the police, Edik was a hitman for the Russian-speaking mafia and participated in a “war” for control over the smuggling of cigarettes and fuel with Greek groups. Law enforcement officers believe that it was precisely because of the Greeks’ attempt to penetrate this business that mass executions and “murder contracts” began.

While on the wanted list, Edik lost about 30 kg to make it harder for law enforcement to recognize him. After receiving information about his stay in the areas of Aspropyrgos, Ano Liosia, Lavrio and Kalyvia, the police found a house that he rented together with another Russian citizen.

Law enforcement officers believe that Edik was preparing a new attack and are checking a possible connection with a 37-year-old Cretan criminal detained with an arsenal of weapons and stolen cars. Investigators are also analyzing ammunition and weapons to obtain important evidence that could confirm the preparation of a new assassination attempt.
