The Senate passed a bill that provides penalties for doctors who spread false information in the public space

The Senate adopted, on Monday, as the first forum seised, the draft law that provides for the sanctioning of doctors who spread in the public space, by any means, false information or contrary to the scientific evidence recognized at the national and international level, which may endanger public health.
There were 79 votes “for”, 38 “against” and 2 abstentions, according to Agerpres.
The legislative proposal amends and completes in this regard Law no. 95/2006 on health reform.
“The doctor is disciplinary liable for non-compliance with the laws and regulations of the medical profession, the Code of Medical Ethics and the rules of good professional practice, the Statute of the College of Doctors in Romania, for non-compliance with the mandatory decisions adopted by the governing bodies of the CMR, for spreading in the public space, by any means, false information or contrary to scientific evidence recognized at the national and international level, which may endanger public health, as well as for any acts committed in relation to the profession, which are likely to prejudice the honor and prestige of the profession or of the CMR”, states the adopted draft.
Also, the normative act provides that the spread, by a doctor, in the public space, by any means, of false information or contrary to scientific evidence recognized at the national and international level, which may endanger public health, is sanctioned with the prohibition to exercise the profession or certain medical activities for a period of one month to one year, for the first offense, and with the withdrawal of membership of the CMR, for the second offense.
