The Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg was arrested on Tuesday in London during a demonstration in support of the banned Palestine Action group, the Defend Our Juries and Prisoners for Palestine associations announced in press releases, AFP informs, according to Agerpres.

“Greta Thunberg was holding a sign that read 'I support Palestine Action prisoners. I oppose genocide,'” a spokesman for Defend Our Juries pointed out, stating that the activist “was arrested under British anti-terrorist legislation.”

Palestine Action was listed as a 'terrorist' organization in the UK in early July after acts of vandalism by its activists, some of whom are in prison and on hunger strike. Any form of support for the organization is punishable by up to six months in prison.

By including Palestine Action on the list of banned organizations, the British authorities place it on the same legal level as Hamas, al-Qaida or ISIS, according to Reuters.

Any promotion of the group, organization of meetings or public display of its symbols is prohibited, and violation of these rules is punishable by up to 14 years in prison.

Palestine Action claims Britain is an “active participant” in the Gaza conflict, citing military support for Israel.
