The Alliance for the Union of Romanians (AUR) announces, on Monday, that it has appealed to the Constitutional Court of Romania the Parliament's decision regarding the appointment of members of the Boards of Directors of Romanian Television and Public Radio.

The notification concerns the flagrant violation of the provisions of the Romanian Constitution, especially of art. 1 paragraph (3) and (5), as well as non-compliance with the imperative provisions of Law no. 41/1994, which requires the appointment of the members of the Boards of Directors of SRTV and SRR with respect to the political configuration and the weight of the parliamentary groups in the Parliament”announced on Monday, AUR, in a press release, writes News.ro.

According to the cited document, in the nomination procedure, proposals were made for two positions of full members and two positions of alternate members, proportional to the parliamentary weight.

AUR complains that, although the law provides for a balanced representation in the boards of directors of SRTV and SRR, the party received only one seat, while formations with a lower parliamentary weight, such as PNL, USR and UDMR, received equal or greater representation, a situation that it considers contrary to the law and CCR jurisprudence.

The party specifies that the notification states that “The Parliament ignored clear precedents established by the Constitutional Court, especially the Decision regarding Parliament Decision no. 28/2012, by which the CCR sanctioned a similar situation of violation of the principle of political representativeness in the Administrative Councils of public radio and television services”.

AUR appeals to the Constitutional Court the Parliament Decision no. 45/2025, adopted and published in the Official Gazette on November 18, claiming that it violates the law and the decisions of the CCR, affects the rule of law and the legality of the operation of some fundamental public institutions.

The party demands the admission of the referral and the finding of the unconstitutionality of the decision in order to restore legality, respect for the political configuration of the Parliament and the correct functioning of public radio and television services.

The mandate of the persons appointed in these councils is four years.
