Peace summit in Berlin. Europe and the US have committed to providing guarantees to Ukraine
The talks take place shortly after the Berlin summit, where European leaders announced that the US and Europe had committed to working together to provide Ukraine with security guarantees in the event of an end to the war.
According to the Financial Times, Kirill Dmitriev is one of the architects of the peace plan for Ukraine revealed by the media in November, co-created by “a group of Russian and American officials”, which was deemed unacceptable by Ukraine and its allies.
Vladimir Putin is not willing to negotiate
American intelligence reports, however, warn that Russian leader Vladimir Putin is unwilling to make concessions and is still striving to occupy all of Ukraine, which contradicts the claims of some American officials that Moscow is ready for peace, reports Reuters.
The Russian leader did not propose any compromise during his annual press conference in Moscow and emphasized that Russia's conditions for ending the war have not changed since June 2024, when he demanded that Ukraine give up its ambition to join NATO and completely withdraw from the Luhansk, Donetsk, Kherson and Zaporizhzhya oblasts, which Russia considers its territory.
