Nicușor Dan praises the governing coalition: “Our main concern was that the rating agencies would not downgrade Romania. This risk no longer exists”
President Nicușor Dan declared on Friday, December 19, after the European Council meeting, that it is commendable that the four parties were willing to take over the governance of Romania at a time when the country was in a vulnerable position.

According to News.ro, Nicusor Dan spoke, after the European Council meeting, about the successes and failures of the current coalition.
“It is difficult at this time to make such a subtle analysis, as you are asking me to do. I, on the one hand, of course, as I said since December 1, we have 10% inflation, this means that (…) their purchasing power is 10% lower than last year at this time, so this is a fact.
On the other hand, this Coalition succeededif we look macro… 5-6 months ago, our main concern was lest the rating agencies downgrade Romania to not recommended for investors and many investment funds leave Romania. This risk no longer exists at the moment. So this is a success of the coalition”, answered the president.
He added that “on the OECD, not the OSCE, on the legislative side things have come to an end, that is, we have fulfilled all our obligations, again it is a success of the coalition”.
“Of course, six months is a little short to evaluate. And I also said to keep repeating, Romania was in a vulnerable position and the fact that these four parties chose to be part of the government is a commendable thing”, completed the head of state.
Asked about the mistakes of the coalition, Nicusor Dan stated: “Yes, let's encourage them that we have no alternatives”.
Nicuşor Dan believes that public self-reports should improve the relationship with citizens and learn to communicate more and better, but he believes that reducing corruption is the main problem.
“We are not only talking about the coalition, we are also talking about myself and, in general, about any public authority, the relationship with the citizens is important to be improved (…) more than to throw accusations at each other, I am talking about the political class, it is more important to explain what we are doing, what are the stakes, why the Western direction is good, why Europe with all its structural decision problems is a viable alternative for Romania (…)
On the substantial, obvious side, we must reduce corruption, we must improve the interface between the interaction between the authority and the citizen”the head of state also declared.
Asked what his wish list would be for next year, what he would ask Santa Claus, Nicusor Dan stated that he wants Romanian society to be more aware of both opportunities and vulnerabilities.
“I had a short talk with the little girl…I know that the first thing she wants is for us to be healthy, but the second…I said something about the political class and she said, “oh, daddy, what an educational language you have”.
From this position, I want Romanian society to become aware of its opportunities and vulnerabilities and to succeed in working together. If Santa Claus works at this abstract level, I think it would be a good thing”.
