PSG's Russian goalkeeper Matvey Safonov (26) pulled off a feat similar to that of the legendary Helmut Duckadam in the 1986 European Champions Cup final when he saved 4 penalties in the final win over Barcelona.

Safonov managed to save 4 shots from 11 meters in the final of the Intercontinental Cup, which PSG won against Flamengo 2-1 on penalties after 1-1 in regulation time.

PSG won their sixth trophy of the season after winning the Intercontinental Cup against Flamengo.

Khvicha Kvaratskhelia opened the scoring in the 38th minute, after Fabian Ruiz had earlier managed to unlock the scoreboard in the 9th minute, but the goal had been disallowed by the VAR camera.

Jorginho restored parity in the 62nd minute after Jorginho converted a penalty and the first 90 minutes ended in a draw. In overtime neither of the two teams managed to hit a shot, and the match went to penalty kicks.

Nicolas de la Cruz opened the scoring for Flamengo, but Vitinha was able to restore parity immediately. Later, Russian Matvey Safonov brought home the trophy for PSG with a stunning performance.

Safonov saved Saul Niguez, Pedro, Leo Pereira and Luiz Araujo in succession as PSG claimed the trophy after winning 2-1 on penalties. The other goal was scored by Nuno Mendes, while Ousmane Dembele and Bradley Barcola missed.

Safonov achieved a feat similar to that achieved by Helmut Duckadam in the 1986 European Champions Cup final, when he managed to save all 4 penalty kicks executed by Barcelona, bringing the triumph of Stella in the most important European inter-club competition, after Marius Lăcătuș and Gabi Balint converted the penalties.

It's the first time I've seen a goalkeeper save four shots from 11 meters. But we are happy to keep winning trophies and we deserved to win this one.

It's time to celebrate this trophy and congratulate everyone, those who played, those who didn't play, and to be happy for our supporters. We want to continue writing history. But now we just have to enjoy this moment.
