The fact that the National Arena becomes unavailable for football matches starting in May 2026, exactly the period in which the last part of the Superliga play-off will take place, caused a real revolt from Mihai Stoica, the president of the Board of Directors of FCSBand of Andrei Nicolescu, its president Dinamo.

MM Stoica declared himself dismayed by the fact that the National Arena, under the authority of the Capital City Hall, will organize two concerts in May 2026, which will be supported by Metallica and Iron Maiden. The FCSB official also brought up the assumption that a possible FCSB – Dinamo derby, which would be decisive for the title fight, could be played at the Arc de Triomphe, a stadium with a capacity of 8,000 seats.

On the other hand, Andrei Nicolescu cited financial reasons, exemplifying that in the regular season Dinamo organized matches with lower rated teams at the National Arena, which caused a low attendance at the stadium, and compensation for the losses would have come in the play-offs, where theoretically the interest of the supporters will be much greater.

  • The last 4 stages of the Super League play-off take place in May 2026, in the periods 2-3 May, 9-10 May, 16-17 May and 23-24 May.

  • Metallica will perform the concert at the National Arena on May 13, 2026.

  • Iron Maiden will perform the concert at the National Arena on May 28, 2026.

Mihai Stoica and Andrei Nicolescu, upset that they can't use the National Arena in the end of the play-off: “It's outrageous what's happening”

Present in the Prima Sport studio, Mihai Stoica and Andrei Nicolescu debated the situation of the National Arena and declared themselves shocked by the fact that the Capital City Hall decided to prioritize concerts over football matches.

– Mihai Stoica: Do you realize what a bummer that will be?! Rapid and Dinamo are in the play-off, maybe we will make it too and it will only be possible to play at the National Arena until the first part of the play-off. What is happening is loud in the sky!
– Andrei Nicolescu: Do you know that even better news? Until it's closed…
– Mihai Stoica: All summer until autumn. It's great fun! Think that there is a possibility that Dinamo – FCSB will play for the title in the last stage, to play on the Arc de Triumf, on a field with trees!
– Andrei Nicolescu: If Dinamo – FCSB play for the title, we play in Sibiu (no, laughs).
– Mihai Stoica: It's not just about losing money here, it's about a stadium being built so it wouldn't be (no available for football matches).
– Andrei Nicolescu: It's about money. We rent the National Arena and when we play with 3,000 spectators we lose money, and in the matches where we can make up the losses we are not allowed to play!
– Mihai Stoica: Do you think that there would be a Dinamo match with us, or us with Rapid, in the Arena with the title on the table, let it not be an archipelago in the summer?!

What options do FCSB and Dinamo have instead of the National Arena

Considering the unavailability of the National Arena for May, FCSB has the option of returning to the Steaua Stadium, where it started its season, for the same reason.

The National Arena organized various festivals at the beginning of this summer, and FCSB played several matches at the Steaua Stadium, both in the Super League and in the preliminaries of the European Cups.

On the other hand, Arcum de Triumf, Dinamo's host in previous seasons, is not an option for the club, and the Municipal Stadium in Sibiu and Cluj Arena are taken into account.
