The Kremlin is sending a signal regarding European troops in Ukraine. Conversations possible


Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Wednesday that Russia's approach to the possible presence of European troops in Ukraine remains unchanged. At the same time, he stressed that Moscow was ready to talk on this topic.

The comment was made in response to reports from The New York Times, according to which, as part of a potential peace agreement, Ukraine could receive security guarantees provided by European military contingents stationed in the west of the country.
“Our position on the stationing of foreign military contingents on the territory of Ukraine is known.” said Peskov. “It is widely known, consistent and understandable. However, it is a topic for discussion” – he added, emphasizing that he did not want to make hasty judgments.

Peskov also referred to Russian-American contacts. As he informed, Steve Witkoff, special envoy of US President Donald Trump, is not expected to visit Moscow in the coming days.
“Russia expects that the US authorities will immediately provide information on the results of the US-Ukrainian talks,” noted the Kremlin spokesman, quoted by Reuters.
On Monday, European leaders met in Berlin with the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, and Donald Trump also participated in the talks – by telephone. The summit was preceded by two days of negotiations between the US and Ukrainian delegations, in which, among others, Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner.
After the talks, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz wrote on the X platform that for the first time since the beginning of the war there was a real chance for an armistice.. “We want to walk this path to peace together, with Ukrainians, our European neighbors and the USA.” – he emphasized.
European and American leaders also declare their readiness to cooperate on a security guarantee system for Ukraine, which would come into force after the end of hostilities. One of the scenarios being considered is a European-led and US-supported military mission, the so-called coalition of the willing.
