Politico poll reveals Europe's division on aid to Ukraine


Four years of war mean that support for Ukraine fighting against Russia is slowly starting to change. This is clearly visible in the results of the latest Politico survey.

45 percent Germans are in favor of limiting aid, and only 20 percent demands its increase. In France, 37 percent respondents also want to reduce support, while 24 percent supports its growth.
In Anglo-Saxon countries the proportions are different. In Great Britain, 31 percent respondents want more aid, and 24 percent its limitations. In the US, 37% support more support. respondents, and 24% have the opposite opinion. In Canada, however, 35 percent respondents support increasing aid, and 22 percent is in favor of limiting it.

In the United States, support for Ukraine is clearly divided along political lines. Kamala Harris voters are more likely to cite the need to protect democracy as a key reason for aid, with 29% sharing this view. of them. Among Donald Trump's supporters, only 17 percent believes that protecting democracy is an important argument for supporting Kiev.
Military aid and the issue of refugees from Ukraine
When it comes to military aid, nearly 40 percent respondents in the USA, Great Britain and Canada are in favor of increasing it, and about 20 percent is against it. In Germany, 26 percent respondents support greater military involvement, while 39 percent has a different opinion. In France, however, 31 percent respondents want to increase military aid, and 30 percent is against it.
Germany also stands out when it comes to accepting Ukrainian refugees. Half of respondents in this country believe that the number of people admitted from Ukraine should be limited, as well as less support for those who have already found shelter in Germany. In France, 30 percent respondents support limiting the admission of refugees, while 25 percent is of the opposite opinion.
Russia is guilty of the war. Everyone agrees on one thing
Despite differences in approaches to helping Ukraine, in all five countries, respondents unanimously agreed that Russia should be punished for its aggression. Maintaining the sanctions imposed on Moscow enjoys wide support.

The survey was conducted before the European Union summit to be held in Brussels on December 18. The President of the European Council, Antonio Costa, announced that the leaders' meeting will last until an agreement is reached on the financing of Ukraine for the next two years. The study covered 10,000 people. 510 people, including at least 2 thousand respondents in each of the analyzed countries.
