The alert state from Praid, extended for another 30 days. Authorities are trying to control the waters threatening saline
The alert state in Praid commune, Harghita county, was extended for another 30 days, after the saline in the locality continues to be threatened by the waters of the Corund stream. It is the fourth consecutive month in which the authorities maintain the emergency regime, in the context of still unfinished works.

The Prefect's Institution – Harghita County transmitted on Thursday that the state of alert on the commune was extended by the Local Committee for Emergency Praid for August 9 – September 9, 2025, including, according to AGERPRES.
The quoted source states that during the alert status will be taken several measures, among which are the mobilization of all the means, forces and decision -making factors necessary for the execution of the provisional deviation works of the Corund stream, informing the population in the commune and from the neighboring localities about the evolution of the situation, the prohibition of the area and in the affected area, persons and households located downstream of the affected perimeter.
Corund stream course, provisionally deflected to save saline
In informing the prefect's institution, it is mentioned that the works on the system of corrugated pipes, through which the course of the Corund stream was provisionally deviated in a week, if the weather and hydrological conditions will allow.

At the same time, it is also specified that, at present, several works are performed, respectively the elevation of the provisional dam upstream, for the additional control of the flow, works on the upstream dam, cleaning and arranging the terrace as well as bringing the broken stone and completing the bottom material for stabilizing and maintaining the pipes.
“At the time of the present, the system of corrugate pipes takes over and transits the entire amount of water of the Corund stream, the system operating normally,” transmits the prefect's institution.
What are the risks
However, the risks persist, and the authorities treat the situation with maximum caution. In the case of abundant rains or the sudden growth of the Corund stream flow, there is a danger that the provisional deviation system, based on corrugated pipes and temporary dams, will be exceeded or even damaged. Such an eventuality could again lead to the infiltration of water in the saline, with potentially catastrophic effects on the whole area.
Emergency regimen for fourth consecutive month
The Local Committee for Emergency Praid situations instituted for the first time alert in the locality on May 8, when infiltration underground, following heavy rains began. Subsequently, the alert state was extended periodically.
