American companies under pressure from the EU? Washington announces retaliatory measures


American authorities accuse the EU and its member states of using practices that, in their opinion, are unfavorable to American companies. The Office of the US Trade Representative pointed out that European regulations lead to the imposition of taxes, fines and directives targeting American companies.

The statement noted that US companies provide a wide range of free services to EU citizens, support European enterprises and generate millions of jobs on the Old Continent, contributing to investments worth over USD 100 billion.
The American authorities emphasize that they have been expressing their reservations about these practices in talks with Brussels for years. In its statement, the office accused the EU of lack of involvement and ignoring these concerns. It was also pointed out that European service providers, such as Accenture, Amadeus, Capgemini, DHL, Mistral, Publicis, SAP, Siemens and Spotify, have been operating on the American market for decades, benefiting from equal access rules.
According to the Bureau, if the EU and its member states continue their policy of limiting the competitiveness of American companies, the United States may resort to available remedies. The statement noted that US law allows for the introduction of fees or restrictions on foreign services.
“If other countries decide to follow the European Union's strategy in this area, the US will take a similar stance towards them” – it was announced.

As the New York Times wrote, “American authorities have long been frustrated by the European Union's role as the most aggressive regulator of the world's technology industry.”
