Amazon is in talks to invest about $10 billion in OpenAI, sources cited by Reuters say. The company that developed ChatGPT could end up being valued at $500 billion.
Sources say nothing is finalized yet, with talks being “fluid”. Amazon has a market capitalization of $2.3 trillion.
The potential deal shows that there is growing demand for computing power in the AI sector as companies develop increasingly powerful systems and models. The news was first reported by the publication The Information.
OpenAI has signed several large-scale partnerships in the last year and expects accelerated business growth.
Giants like Nvidia and Oracle signed multibillion-dollar AI deals with the company that created ChatGPT this year.
The Information publication also wrote that OpenAI plans to use Amazon's Trainium chips, which compete with those from Nvidia and Google.
OpenAI in November signed a $38 billion deal to acquire cloud services from Amazon. There have also been reports that OpenAI would like to go public.
