The case began in the summer of 2019, when a senior detective from the economic security department met with an acquaintance who had previously been convicted of illegal gambling. He offered the policeman to “protect” the new casino for money and access to the storage of confiscated property. The policeman agreed, and at night, on his orders, 32 working slot machines and two poker tables were removed from the warehouse. In the future, he received 45 thousand rubles from the organizer for warnings about inspections.
Later, having headed a department in another division, he involved his colleague, the deputy head of the department for combating organized crime, in the scheme. From August to October 2023, bribes for “covering up” the casino on Vodopyanova Street began to be received in cryptocurrency: 3.5 USDT (about 338 thousand rubles), which were then cashed out through an intermediary.
The scheme was uncovered by employees of the regional FSB Directorate. The case included both records of transfers and testimony of participants who removed equipment and cashed out cryptocurrency.
Sentencing two Krasnoyarsk police officers for protecting an underground casino
The court found both former police officers guilty of accepting bribes, abuse of power, mediation in bribery and money laundering. They were sentenced to terms from 5.5 to 7 years in prison with confiscation of property and fines from 115 to 338 thousand rubles. They are also prohibited from holding positions in law enforcement agencies. The court ordered the destruction of slot machines. The organizer of the gambling business was previously given a suspended sentence.
The verdict has not yet entered into legal force and will be appealed by the defense on the issue of depriving the convicted of special ranks.
