Poland on the Mediterranean Sea
The Deputy Prime Minister reminded that the Polish Military Contingent in Turkey has been operating since 2021, carrying out patrol missions in the Mediterranean Sea. Since October this year, the contingent has expanded its operational capabilities through the use of Bayraktar TB2 unmanned aerial vehicles. Kosiniak-Kamysz expressed gratitude to the Turkish side for the support provided to Poland during the floods in 2024, emphasizing that Türkiye was one of the first allies to respond.
NEC Türkiye was created in response to Turkey's appeal to NATO allies for support in connection with the deteriorating security situation in the region. Currently, 75 Polish soldiers from the 12th Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Base and the 10th Logistics Brigade are stationed at the Incirlik air base.
During his visit to Turkey, the Minister of Defense extended Christmas wishes to Polish soldiers, reminding them of the upcoming Christmas. A meeting between Kosiniak-Kamysz and Turkish Defense Minister Yasar Guler is scheduled for Monday, during which an agreement on Polish-Turkish cooperation will be signed. At the same time, talks will be held between representatives of the Polish arms industry and Turkish enterprises.
Erdogan returns from Putin
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, returning from a visit to Turkmenistan on Saturday, commented on Friday's meeting with Vladimir Putin in that country. The Turkish leader assessed that peace in Ukraine was not far away. He added that he hoped for a discussion peace plan with US President Donald Trump, Anadolu Agency reported.
Erdogan met with Putin on Friday in Turkmenistan's capital, Ashgabat, at an international peace forum to mark the 30th anniversary of the United Nations' recognition of the Central Asian country as a neutral country. The Turkish leader said while talking to journalists on the return flightthat “peace in Ukraine is not far away.”
The Turkish president warned both sides of the conflict, Russian and Ukrainian, against attacks in the Black Sea. Erdogan's statement came several hours after Turkish ships were damaged by Russian shelling in the Odessa Oblast in southern Ukraine.
