On Sunday, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz received Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and the US delegation, along with Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, at the Chancellor's Office. On Monday, talks will take place in Berlin regarding, among others: safety guarantee.
According to German media, on Sunday morning the American delegation held talks in one of the Berlin hotels with representatives of Ukraine and the chancellor's foreign policy advisor, Guenter Sautter.
In addition to Wittkof, special envoy of the US President, and Kushner, son-in-law of US President Donald Trump, American General Alexus Grynkewich, the commander-in-chief of allied forces in Europe, also arrived in the German capital.
Apart from Zelensky, the Ukrainian delegation included, among others: Head of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine Rustem Umerov and Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine General Andriy Hnatov.
Macron: The US, Europe and Ukraine only want peace
French President Emmanuel Macron emphasized on Sunday in a comment on Platform X that Europe, Ukraine and the US want peace in the war waged by Russia and thanked European, Ukrainian and American negotiators. He also said that he talked with the leader of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky.
Macron announced on X on Sunday afternoon that he had just held a conversation with Zelensky. He then added: “Americans, Europeans and Ukrainians only want peace.” (https://tinyurl.com/yckx3ayr)
He stressed that Russia “continues its aggressive war,” but Ukraine “holds on.” He assured that France would remain by Ukraine's side “to build a solid and lasting peace that will make it possible to guarantee the security and sovereignty of Ukraine and Europe in the long term.” Macron expressed thanks to “all the negotiators: Ukrainian, European and American, mobilized for this goal.”
On Monday, the French president will take part, along with other European leaders and the Ukrainian delegation together with President Zelensky, in talks in Berlin with US representatives on ceasefire plans and security guarantees for Ukraine.
