John Cena, 48 years old and one of the most titled champions in the history of WWE, ended his impressive career in wrestling at the end of 2025. The decision to retire had been announced since the previous summer, at the Money in the Bank event.

His last match was against former world champion Gunther, who earned the right to face Cena by winning The Last Time is Now tournament, where he defeated LA Knight in the finals. The match ended with a submission victory for Gunther, marking the end of Cena's in-ring career. At the end, Cena left his gear in the center of the ring, receiving applause from the fans present in Washington.

Cena debuted with a strong match against Kurt Angle. Throughout his career, he became one of the most popular wrestlers in history, appreciated for his performances in the ring as well as his charisma and involvement in charitable acts. In recent years, Cena has also focused his attention on acting, preparing for life after wrestling.
When will the farewell match take place
His final appearance would be on Saturday Night's Main Event against Gunther, a rising wrestler also known for ending Goldberg's career over the summer. Gunther was chosen as Cena's final opponent following a tournament that brought together 16 athletes, being the one who got the chance to face the legendary wrestler.
