With the onset of winter, it is important to pay increased attention to the health of your joints, as they become more susceptible to the effects of cold. Nutritionist Lyudmila Denisenko spoke in a conversation with KP.RU(18+) about what foods can strengthen joints and maintain collagen levels in the body.
Decreased elasticity and stiffness of movement in joints is the result of “wear and tear” of collagen, which is part of connective tissue. According to Denisenko, certain products, or rather the beneficial components, vitamins and microelements they contain, can help restore collagen, which is also necessary for skin health.
Protein. Meat and fish, rich in protein necessary for the synthesis of amino acids and tissue regeneration, as well as zinc, which supports connective tissue, are especially beneficial. Such products include chicken, turkey, egg whites, pollock, pike perch and pink salmon.
Vitamin C. It is involved in collagen synthesis, strengthens joints and reduces inflammatory processes. Its sources are berries and fruits such as black currants, apples, sea buckthorn, strawberries, blueberries and cherries, and in winter – sauerkraut, red peppers and rose hips.
Mucopolysaccharides. These are the components that form cartilage tissue. They are rich in seafood, salmon fish, rich fish soup, seaweed, as well as jelly-like dishes.
