Officers of the Lower Silesian National Tax Administration and the Central Police Investigation Bureau prevented the smuggling of 36 kg of marijuana hidden in a cable reel. The value of the seized contraband is over PLN 1.7 million. The driver was taken into custody.

The officers had information about the possible transport of drugs in a truck traveling on the A4 highway from Germany. Near Jędrzychowice, they stopped a selected vehicle entering Poland for inspection.
“The driver presented documents according to which there was a cable reel in the trailer. The officers noticed that the route he declared from Denmark to Poland did not correspond to typical transport routes used on this section,” said the spokeswoman for the head of KAS, Senior Asp. Justyna Pasieczyńska.
For this reason, the truck was sent for a detailed inspection. During the investigation, the officers' attention was drawn to an unoriginally cut hole in an industrial cable drum.
“After cutting additional inspection holes, a service dog trained to detect drugs clearly pointed to fragments of the reel, suggesting prohibited substances were hidden inside it,” noted the spokesman for the CBŚP, Komm. Krzysztof Wrześniowski.
In a specially constructed hiding place, the officers found 35 plastic bags with marijuana weighing over 36 kg. The estimated black market value of the seized drug is over PLN 1.7 million.
The driver was detained and arrested for three months. He was charged with drug smuggling, which carries a penalty of 3 to 20 years in prison. (PAP)
