The Russian Ministry of Defense has proposed establishing a medal for soldiers and civilians for helping to recover bodies from the combat zone in Ukraine, Reuters reported on Monday.

“This is a rare official signal that Russia is having difficulty accounting for missing persons after almost four years of war with Ukraine,” the agency commented.
Reuters cites a document published on Monday that proposes awarding the medal for “evacuation of killed soldiers and other people in combat conditions in which there is a threat to life.”
People who contributed to the implementation of innovative technologies that help recover bodies and identify the deceased are also to be honored.
According to British military intelligence estimates, more than a million Russian soldiers have been killed or wounded since the invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. (PAP)
