The exclusion of the “I buy many pieces” option is the result of the introduction of a deposit system, which requires the chain to adapt its sales processes.

“Due to the ongoing transition period related to the implementation of the deposit system, the function of adding multiple items has been temporarily disabled at self-service checkouts. Packaging with and without a deposit is now available on the shelves,” explained Anna Nowakowska, operational projects manager at Biedronka, in an interview with Bizblog.pl.

Biedronka explains that the change is to minimize the risk of errors when scanning products. Customers may accidentally purchase drinks with a deposit instead of without it, or vice versa. Disabling the function is intended to ensure greater shopping comfort and avoid misunderstandings at the checkout.

As “Fakt” explains, problems with implementing the deposit system in Biedronka began in October. At that time, there were no bottle dispensers and appropriate markings in stores, and the website did not provide clear information about the return of packaging.
The chain explained the scale of the challenge – it had to install vending machines in almost 3.8 thousand. stores with an area of over 200 sq m.
