Miłosz Motyka announces a new energy plan. Work on the strategy until 2050 begins.


During Friday's meeting in Katowice with representatives of the mining industry, the minister Motyka emphasized that the obligations arising from the social contract, which assumes a complete abandonment of thermal coal mining by 2049, will be implemented. He also expressed confidence that the updated plan will be presented in accordance with the schedule set by the Ministry of Energy.

The minister emphasized that the document will include both scenarios: the basic WEM and the ambitious WAM. Motyka explained that the WEM scenario corresponds to the demands agreed with the social side as part of the social contract. “We carry out what we agreed on” – he emphasized.
During talks with miners, the issue of energy-intensive industry and the need to provide cheaper energy was also raised, which is crucial for the competitiveness of the economy and benefits for citizens. The minister indicated that the first step in this direction would be an amendment to the tariff regulation. For this purpose, a special team for the preparation of tariffs has been established at the Ministry of Energy, which is to develop specific solutions in the coming weeks.

Motyka also announced the commencement of work on the state's energy policy until 2050, which is to take into account the interests of a just transformation. “Our strategy will be balanced – bold, but also prudent.” – concluded the minister, emphasizing the role of the social side in the process of creating the document. Work on it is scheduled to start next week.
