The Danish Military Intelligence Service (FE), in its annual report, recognized the USA for the first time as one of the elements negatively affecting the country's security. Russia remains the biggest enemy.

The document emphasizes that “the United States' increasing focus on the Pacific region creates uncertainty as to the role of this country as the main guarantor of security in Europe.” It was noted that “the US is currently using its economic and technological power as a tool of force, also against allies and partners.”
Diplomatic relations between Denmark and the US have deteriorated over the last year after US President Donald Trump's statements about the need to annex Greenland, which is dependent on the government in Copenhagen.
In the report FE services warned of growing competition in the Arctic between the US, Russia and China. According to the authors of the study, this increases the risk of espionage activities, including cybernetic activities, as well as attempts to influence the Danish territories in the North Atlantic, Greenland and the Faroe Islands.
Russia was considered the most serious threat to Denmark due to the possibility of expanding its military capabilities for attacks in Europe several years after the end of the war in Ukraine or its freezing. As indicated, if fighting stops in 2026, then half a year later, the Russians will be able to fight a local war, after two years – a regional war, and after five years – on a large scale.
They warned against a short-lived and dangerous peace on Russian terms. – If Russia manages to conquer Ukraine, the Kremlin will take control of the country that currently houses the largest arms industry in Europe, noted the head of FE, Thomas Ahrenkiel, in an interview with the Berlingske newspaper. – This would change the entire balance of power in Europe – he warned.
Denmark created the so-called the Danish model, which involves allies investing in weapons production on Ukrainian territory.
The report also noted on critical infrastructure in Denmark and the rest of Europe under pressure from Russia. In autumn, flights were suspended several times at the airports in Copenhagen and Aalborg after sightings of unidentified drones. Before the November local elections in Denmark, there were attacks on the websites of political parties, municipalities, arms companies and state railways; A pro-Russian hacker group claimed responsibility for them.
According to University of Copenhagen political science professor Mikkel Vedba Rasmussen, this year's FE report shows that superpowers are competing with each other and that small countries such as Denmark may be oppressed as conflict and uncertainty increase.
– We do not fully believe that an alliance with the US can guarantee our security, and the conclusion from reading (the report – PAP) is the need for strong defense, economy and democracy, which are interconnected – emphasized the expert on TV2.
After World War II, the United States became Denmark's most important ally. Under an agreement signed in the 1950s, the American space military base Pituffik is located in Greenland. (PAP)
