State aid of 3.15 billion lei for the closure of 4 mines in Valea Jiului. Nicusor Dan promulgated the law

State aid for the closure and safeguarding of the uncompetitive Lonea, Lupeni, Livezeni and Vulcan coal mines. The law, adopted on November 26 by the Chamber of Deputies, has as its regulatory object the establishment of the legal framework for the granting of state aid in the maximum amount of 3.15 billion lei to Societatea Complexul Energetic “Valea Jiului”- SA for the phased implementation of the Mining Closure Plan, in the period 2025-December 31, 2032, according to News.ro.
The aid is granted in the form of grants and is intended to cover the exceptional expenses necessary to carry out the activities and measures contained in the Mine Closure Plan within SCEVJ SA, respectively for:
– works for the safety of underground activity,
– rehabilitation of former mining perimeters,
– recultivation of surface soils,
– compensatory payments for personnel who are about to lose their jobs and professional retraining.
State aid in the form of grants for the financing of the expenses for the execution of activities to close and secure the coal deposit, including the greening of the mining perimeters, is granted annually from the state budget, through the budget approved by the Ministry of Energy, within the limits of the budgetary provisions approved for this purpose.
It is also foreseen to grant funding in the form of a grant for the year 2025, in the amount of approximately 606.7 million lei, in the following structure:
– costs of compensatory payments granted to employees who lose their jobs (7,821 thousand lei),
– professional retraining costs (208 thousand lei),
– costs for works regarding the safety of underground activity (514,021 thousand lei),
– costs related to the rehabilitation of former mining operations (46,905 thousand lei),
– recultivation costs of surface soils (37,827 thousand lei).
