According to the head of the EC, the topic of strong and reliable security guarantees for Ukraine is important.
Von der Leyen added that she informed the leaders about the EC's work to secure financing for Ukraine for 2026-2027.
These proposals are “already on the table,” and the sense of urgency is “obvious to everyone,” the President of the European Commission said.
“Next week will be decisive,” von der Leyen concluded.

Context
On December 11, an online meeting of the coalition of the willing was held with the participation of Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky. In his address to the meeting participants, the head of state spoke about his conversation with the US delegation on security guarantees for Ukraine.
Zelensky said that he expects a response from the United States to the framework document of the “peace plan” of 20 key points, which was handed over to the American side on December 10.
The Ukrainian and US delegations have already held seven rounds of negotiations on a “peace plan” for resolving the Russian-Ukrainian war. In parallel, the American side is holding discussions on the same issue with the aggressor country of the Russian Federation.
On December 9, Zelensky stated that Ukraine was discussing three documents on the “peace plan” with the United States and the EU, one of them on security guarantees.
