Inter's striker, Lautaro Martinez, was awarded at the “La Gazzetta dello Sport Awards” gala, alongside Milan's Luka Modric.
At the end of the event, Lautaro Martinez spoke with Gazzetta dello Sport journalists and clarified, among other things, his relationship with Cristi Chivu. The two had a very good relationship at one point, but during the season there was also a tense moment, when the Argentinian reacted angrily after the Romanian coach replaced him.
Lautaro Martinez: “I get very angry when I lose”
Smiling at Thursday night's gala, the 2022 world champion was asked if Chivu was responsible for his mood. Lautaro's response: “No… Look, off the pitch I'm a happy person. But on the pitch, even in training, I get serious because I'm focused.

Each has its own character. From the moment I get on the bus until I get home, I have only one goal: to win and do what's best for the team. I get very angry when I lose.”
Lautaro Martinez claims that “Cristi Chivu gives us a lot of energy”
Asked if he got over the “Munich moment”, when Inter lost the 2025 League final to PSG (0-5), Lautaro again mentioned Chivu, of whom he had a positive assessment.
“Failures, even if they hurt a lot, make you grow. You also have to take into account the quality of the opponent. Anyway, I started from scratch. Maybe some results were not positive, but it takes a little time. We have a new coach, Cristian Chivu, who gives us a lot of energy. From the outside, it may not be visible, but we know that we are growing day by day,” said the Argentine.
The failure with Liverpool on Wednesday? “We are disappointed, but not angry. Because if you lose because of a referee's mistake, there is not much you can do. We are sorry that we lost everything because of an injustice. If a penalty was awarded for every foul, the match would never be played again,” Martinez pointed out.
