President Nicușor Dan invited the magistrates who want to report integrity problems in the justice system to a discussion “without time limit” at the Cotroceni Palace, on December 22. The head of state claims that “things are very serious” when almost 200 magistrates claim integrity issues.

“When 200 magistrates say that there is a problem of integrity in the justice system, things are very serious. I invite all magistrates who want to complain about problems in the justice system to a discussion without a time limit on Monday, December 22, starting at 10:00 a.m. I am waiting for registrations at the address [email protected]”, wrote Nicușor Dan, in a post on Facebook.

Also, the president announces that written notifications, signed or not, can be sent to the Presidential Administration.

“Until Thursday, December 18, 24:00, I invite you to send me materials, nominally assumed or not nominally assumed, to the address [email protected]. On Friday, Saturday and Sunday we will have time to read all the materials you send us,” the president writes.

Dan Nicușor motivates scheduling the meeting in ten days by the fact that, between December 15-19, he is out of the country for meetings scheduled long before.

The message of the 178 magistrates

“Truth and integrity must not be sanctioned, but protected”, is the message sent Thursday evening by 178 judges and prosecutors, a small part of them retired. They stand in solidarity with the magistrates who made the revelations in the Recorder documentary.

Message from the magistrates:

“Considering the repercussions that are expected regarding our colleagues Laurentiu Beșu and Raluca Moroșanu, but also the contradictory messages published by the Section for Judges and the Section for Prosecutors, we make the following clarifications.

We publicly express our solidarity with the magistrates who had the courage to report the problems and pressures in the justice system.

Truth and integrity should not be sanctioned but protected. Silence is not an option when the values of the profession are at stake.

At the same time, we emphasize that the aspects reported by the colleagues mentioned above are not isolated. Deep and systemic dysfunctions persist, and addressing them is essential.

The judiciary needs not only courage, but also a real, honest reform, in order to remain free, fair and credible — in the service of the citizen”.

A protest declared in favor of an independent judiciary takes place on Thursday evening in the capital. The demonstration takes place in Piața Victoriei. More than a thousand people have already taken to the streets on Wednesday evening and protested in front of the headquarters of the Superior Council of Magistracy, following the revelations in the Recorder documentary.
