IT holding T1 is carrying out a large project on import substitution in the company “RusHydro”

IT holding T1 is implementing a large-scale project to transition the electric power holding RusHydro from SAP to the domestic 1C platform, which ensures automation of financial and economic management in the executive office and 22 branches of the company. Migration to the new system will become an important element of the digital transformation of the energy holding.

The decision to switch to a domestic platform was made as part of the implementation of a long-term import substitution program. The previous SAP system had reached the end of its useful life, and the company began selecting a new technology platform. The RusHydro company reviewed several Russian solutions, and in the end the choice was made in favor of 1C. A key role was played by the fact that the holding’s perimeter includes more than 90 companies, a significant part of which are already working on 1C – this made it possible to create a single and homogeneous IT landscape and reduce the load on users and the IT department.

The project began with an extensive survey that used systems engineering approaches to identify over 2,500 requirements and identify more than 2,000 features not covered by the standard configuration. Their implementation required a serious amount of customization: the labor intensity of modifications in 1C:ERP Holding management exceeds 100 thousand man-hours. The project includes eight functional areas and four technology blocks, as well as complex integration with other information systems and fifty integration flows.

“This is one of the largest and most complex projects being implemented in the energy sector. The challenge lies in the large amount of customization required to deal with the unique requirements of the industry. To manage such a scale, the T1 IT holding’s own methodology and DevOps approach were used, which made it possible to significantly reduce the time between making changes to the code and their availability to end users. This ensures consistent delivery speeds, early detection of critical defects and increases the company's flexibility in a rapidly changing market. The project is of strategic importance for optimizing business processes and creating a solid technological base for the digital transformation of RusHydro,” said Kirill Bulgakov, Deputy General Director of the T1 IT holding for products and services.

“The project of transition to a domestic platform is an important stage of the import substitution and digitalization program. An additional challenge was the change in the geography of work of the executive apparatus: in the middle of the project, RusHydro carried out a relocation to Krasnoyarsk. The restructuring of work processes and a partial change in the composition of project participants created certain difficulties, but the project team quickly restructured the interaction and maintained the pace of implementation,” emphasized Sergey Khomyakov, director of the information technology and digital development department at RusHydro.

Almost 600 specialists are working on the project: about 170 from T1 and more than 400 from RusHydro.
