The Senate on Monday quietly passed a legislative proposal establishing that “a day off for parents” is granted at the opening of the school year in preschool, primary and secondary education.
The deadline for debate and vote expired on December 3, and the project is considered tacitly adopted by the Senate and will go to the Chamber of Deputies, decision-making body in this case, according to Agerpres.
The legislative proposal was initiated by the PSD senator Claudiu-Daniel Catană and provides that “a day off is granted for parents, as they are defined in the New Civil Code, on the first day of the school year, for preschool, primary and secondary education”.
“An important event for the whole family”
In the statement of reasons, the initiator says that “the first day of school is an important event for the whole family”.
“Although it brings many feelings, we must remember that every child is different and can feel this day in his own way. It is crucial that parents are present for their child and give him the support he needs, thus helping him to adapt more easily to the new environment, whether we are talking about kindergarten or school”, added the initiator.
He said that “the beginning of the school year coincides with a weekday” and parents must “take a day off from vacation or leave work” to be present at the festivities.
“There were not a few cases when the employer refused permission or even sanctioned a possible delay of the employee”, the statement of reasons also states.
