Ursula von der Leyen: We are ready for new sanctions if Russia violates the suspension of the weapon

We support the proposal of a full and unconditional 30-day suspension of weapons and we are ready for new sanctions if Russia violates them-the head of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen said on Saturday on the portal X.

“We support the proposal of a full and unconditional 30-day suspension of weapons. It must be implemented without preliminary conditions to pave the way for significant peaceful negotiations. The ball is now on the side of Russia,” wrote von der Leyen.

She emphasized that the EU is ready to “maintain strong pressure on Russia and impose further sanctions in the event of a violation of truce.”

A similar declaration was made on Saturday in conversations with the media German Chancellor Friedrich Merz and French President Emmanuel Macron, who, together with the Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk and the head of the British government Keir Starmer, came to Kiev to take part in the meeting of the so -called “Coalitions willing”.

Also US President Donald Trump called on Thursday to a 30-day unconditional suspension of weapons, threatening sanctions for disadvantage of a truce. (PAP)
