Misinformation about an extension of the voting schedule in Sunday's by-elections. What time does voting actually stop?

Misinformation is being circulated online and on TV about the extended voting schedule for the Sunday, December 7th by-election. Voters should be aware that voting actually closes at 9:00 p.m.

The partial local elections of December 7, 2025. are organized for the position of general mayor of the municipality of Bucharest, the position of president of the Buzău County Council and some positions of mayor in 12 localities in the country. The mandates assigned and validated following the election of December 7, 2025 will be exercised until the next general local elections.
“Voting in the 1,771 polling stations organized for this election begins on Sunday, December 7, 2025, at 07:00 and ends at 21:00. The data regarding voting attendance will be able to be viewed in real time, with the opening of the polling stations, by displaying on the website of the Permanent Electoral Authority – https://prezenta.roaep.ro, for each voting station, the number of voters who came to vote by age, background and gender categories”states the Permanent Electoral Authority.
The results recorded in the minutes drawn up by the electoral offices of the polling stations will be available on the same page, immediately after their conclusion and digital transmission.

What happens after the end of the election campaign
The electoral campaign, which started on November 22, ended on Saturday, December 6, at 7 o'clock.
24 hours before the start of voting and until the end of voting, the following are prohibited:
– the presentation of opinion polls, televotes or street surveys;
– broadcast of electoral advertising spots;
– inviting or presenting candidates and/or representatives of electoral competitors in the broadcasts and programs of radio and television stations.
– comments on the conduct of the campaign, as well as those on candidates and electoral competitors.
On voting day, the following are prohibited:
– the presentation of polls carried out at the exit from the polls, before the end of voting;
– comments regarding electoral competitors, before the end of voting;
– exhortations to vote or not to vote for a candidate or the candidacies submitted by electoral competitors.
In the partial local elections for the Capital City Hall on December 7, strict rules are applied regarding the distribution of voters to polling stations, depending on domicile or residence. A voter with domicile or residence in Bucharest cannot vote at a polling station in a sector or county other than that of his domicile/residence.
Where you can vote in the partial local elections in Bucharest
Voters can vote only at the polling stations where they have their domicile or residence and only on the territory of Romania. Voting abroad is not allowed in local elections.
