Sorana Cîrstea revealed that she will retire in 2026: “Like everything in life, it must come to an end”

I love tennis… I love discipline, routine, hard work. Competition and adrenaline feed my soul. But like everything in life, it must come to an end.

Next year will be her 20th year on tour as a professional tennis player. I never expected to compete for so long, but the last two years have been the happiest on the field and have kept me going. Having said that, I have now decided that 2026 will be my last year on the circuit.

When you love something so much, it's not easy to say “goodbye”. For now it's not a goodbye, but a “see you again”.

I still have a lot of things I want to perfect, I have goals and ambitions, so I hope I can achieve some of them next year and finish this wonderful career on a high note and on my terms.

I love tennis and I am very lucky and grateful for everything it has given me and taught me. This sport allowed a 4-year-old girl, holding a racket for the first time, to live her dream. A beautiful dream where all the sacrifices were well worth it.

I look forward to all fans, friends and loved ones next to the field for one last dance around the world. Thank you Tennis, I will forever be in your debt. See you in 2026 and thank you all for your unconditional support!“, was the message sent by Sorana Cîrstea, via her official Instagram page.
