Senne Lammens (23), Manchester United's new summer signing, became a goalkeeper because he didn't want to run a lot and be substituted. This was revealed by his brother Tom in an interview with 'The Athletic'.

Lammens is preparing for the biggest test of his career on Sunday when the Red Devils play away at Liverpool. Before the international break, he played his first game for Manchester United and put in a good performance in the 2-0 win against Sunderland.

The reason why Senne Lammens became a goalkeeper: “He didn't like running at all in training”

Lamens' football story begins at Erpe-Mere United. His father is a former player of the club and at one time coached the juniors. At first, Senne played as a forward and showed potential in that position.

However, he moved to goal as he did not like to run. “The change happened mainly because he didn't want to be replaced. Besides, he didn't like running at all in training,” his brother Tom said, according to sportal.bg.

His father sent him to a goalkeeping camp, hoping it would discourage him from playing the position, but the exact opposite happened. Senne developed as a goalkeeper and, thanks to his height and agility, became one of the best young talents in the position, which also led to his transfer to Manchester United.

Senne Lammens was a junior at Club Brugge and was in the senior squad from 2020 until 2023 when he arrived in Antwerp. For 2 years he performed in Antwerp, and this summer Manchester United paid 21 million euros for his transfer. He played the most matches for Antwerp: 64. During this period he received 86 goals and in only 12 games he did not concede a goal. Specialized websites quoted it at 20 million euros.
